A healthy body is well-nourished. You eat nourishing food to keep your body healthy. It's just as important to feed your spirit well to keep it healthy. My question is:
Is your spirit well-nourished?
If you would like to feed your spirit well, consider sampling the following four basic food groups:
- The milk of God's word
- The meat of God's word
- The Bread of Life
- The fruit of the Spirit
The milk of God's word
1 Peter 2:2-3
2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,
3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
If feeding your spirit is a new concept for you, you need to start with the milk of the word. The milk of the word is the basic concepts of faith. Joining a Bible study group can help. Use what you learn in your Bible study group to start studying the Bible at home.
The meat of God's word ("solid food")
Hebrews 5:12-14
12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
13 for everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe,
14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
If you have a firm foundation in the basic concepts of your faith, you're ready to chew on the meat of the word. You're ready to dig more deeply into God's word. It would be helpful to use a good concordance to help you find Bible passages that pertain to topics that you want to study. You can also use online Bibles. They make word searches and topic searches quick and easy. And when you're finished, you can print your results.
The Bread of Life
John 6:35
And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
Whether or not you feast on the Bread of Life depends on whether you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died for your sins and who was raised from the dead. What do you believe?
The fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control.
If you are feasting on the Bread of Life, you've probably already tasted the fruit of the Spirit. Enjoy its sweet flavor and share it with someone.
You feed your body every day. Your spirit needs the same daily tender loving care. So, is your spirit well-nourished?
Share the health.
